11 days/10 nights in Northern Tanzania

Day 1: Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport near Arusha, Tanzania. Your guide will meet you at the airport and assist you to your lodge near Arusha.

Accommodations: Forest Hill Sundown Lodge

Day 2: Arusha

Your adventure will start off easily with the unique opportunity to interact with locals during visits to three local enterprises: Bethany Pre and Primary School, Safe Water Ceramics of East Africa, and Shanga, a successful social enterprise which employs people with disabilities.

Accommodations: Forest Hill Sundown Lodge

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we will enjoy a 2 hour scenic drive to Tarangire National Park, home to the highest population of elephants in Tanzania and the largest concentration of breeding bird species in the world. Baobab tress dot the geographically diverse landscape. We will eat our lunch at a picnic site with a spectacular view of the Tarangire River valley. After a discovery-filled afternoon, we’ll exit the southern side of the park and head to our tented camp, which provides stunning views of Lake Burunge.

Accommodations: Lake Burunge Tented Camp

Baobab Tree

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park

Tloma Lodge

After breakfast you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, featuring a spectacular salt lake covering a large area of the park. The lake floods and dries with the seasons, providing a home to thousands of flamingos, and over 300 bird species.

Accommodations: Karatu Tloma Lodge

Flamingos at Lake Manyara

Day 5: Serengeti

After breakfast we will depart for the Serengeti with its breathtaking landscapes, endless horizons and abundant wildlife. During the 4-5 hour trip to our camp, if conditions permit, we will stop at the Oldupai Gorge. It was here, in 1959, that Louis and Mary Leakey discovered fossil fragments. The gorge is now one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world.

Accommodations: Kati Kati Rongai 2

Day 6: Serengeti

Starting at sunrise we will have a full day’s game drive exploring the beautiful scenery of the Serengeti, a Maasai word for “endless plain,” and seeing the wildlife that nature has in store for us. The wildlife diversity in this huge protected area is unrivaled anywhere on the planet. We dine at our camp again this evening.

Accommodations: Kati Kati Rongai 2

Day 7: Serengeti

Because the animals are most active early in the morning, we will start our safari again around sunrise. Along with looking for animals on the plains, we will also visit isolated rock groups called kopjes, where leopards, cheetah and prides of lion take shelter. We will return to camp for another delicious meal and campfire.

Accommodations: Kati Kati Rongai 2

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast we drive to Ngorongoro Crater. We descend to the floor of the crater for game-viewing. The caldera of Ngorongoro marks the ancient walls of a collapsed volcano, which was probably once the size of Mount Kilmanjaro.

This stunning place offers almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa including the rare black rhino. We will have picnic lunch before we leave the crater and travel to our night’s lodging.

Accommodations: Ngorongoro Farm Valley Lodge

Day 9: Ngorongoro Highlands & Karatu

Maasai market shopping

Today we’ll have the opportunity to relax and explore the surrounding village of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Highlands. We will also have time to shop before our 2-hour return trip to Arusha in the late afternoon.

*If you would like to explore Lake Eyasi, you will have an opportunity to extend your stay one day, and visit the Datoga and Hadzabe people, the last of the hunter gatherer tribes. We will join them on a hunt, walking between 3-5 miles, and imagine what it might be like to live in a different era.

Accommodations: Forest Hill Sundown Lodge

Day 10: Arusha

Our options today include experiencing the Materuni Waterfalls, shopping at covered Maasai market, and visiting families of students who attend the Bethany Pre and Primary School.

Accommodations: Forest Hill Sundown Lodge

Start planning your trip!

Emmanuel and Ishmail will help you find the trip that’s right for you. Below are a few questions we suggest thinking about to assist in the planning of your adventure:

How many days total do you have for your adventure?

Subtract your travel time, usually two days to and from Africa. Now you have the number of days you have to play with.

What does your dream trip look like?

Would you spend all your time game viewing? Do you want to spend some extra time with the children at Bethany Pre and Primary School? Do you wish to immerse yourself in some culture of the Tanzania people? What special interests or needs do you have?

When do you want to travel?

Do you have specific dates or a more open schedule?

Who do you want to travel with?

With friends? With family? With others with similar interests?

What is your estimated budget for your trip?

Make sure to include a budget for international airfare. Emmanuel and Ishmail can help you determine a budget to fit your interests and safari goals. The two safaris listed above can be tailored to your budget and schedule.
