Day 3: Tarangire National Park

Baobab tress dot the geographically diverse landscape. We will eat our lunch at a picnic site with a spectacular view of the Tarangire River valley. After a discovery-filled afternoon, we’ll exit the southern side of the park and head to our tented camp, which provides stunning views of Lake Burunge.

Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park

Day 5: Serengeti

After breakfast we will depart for the Serengeti with its breathtaking landscapes, endless horizons and abundant wildlife. During the 4-5 hour trip to our camp, if conditions permit, we will stop at the Oldupai Gorge. It was here, in 1959, that Louis and Mary Leakey discovered fossil fragments. The gorge is now one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world.

Accommodations: Kati Kati Rongai 2

Day 6: Serengeti

Starting at sunrise we will have a full day’s game drive exploring the beautiful scenery of the Serengeti, a Maasai word for “endless plain,” and seeing the wildlife that nature has in store for us. The wildlife diversity in this huge protected area is unrivaled anywhere on the planet. We dine at our camp again this evening.

Accommodations: Kati Kati Rongai 2

Day 7: Serengeti

Because the animals are most active early in the morning, we will start our safari again around sunrise. Along with looking for animals on the plains, we will also visit isolated rock groups called kopjes, where leopards, cheetah and prides of lion take shelter. We will return to camp for another delicious meal and campfire.

Accommodations: Kati Kati Rongai 2

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast we drive to Ngorongoro Crater. We descend to the floor of the crater for game-viewing. The caldera of Ngorongoro marks the ancient walls of a collapsed volcano, which was probably once the size of Mount Kilmanjaro.

This stunning place offers almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa including the rare black rhino. We will have picnic lunch before we leave the crater and travel to our night’s lodging.

Accommodations: Ngorongoro Farm Valley Lodge

Day 9: Ngorongoro Highlands & Karatu

Maasai market shopping

Today we’ll have the opportunity to relax and explore the surrounding village of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Highlands. We will also have time to shop before our 2-hour return trip to Arusha in the late afternoon.

*If you would like to explore Lake Eyasi, you will have an opportunity to extend your stay one day, and visit the Datoga and Hadzabe people, the last of the hunter gatherer tribes. We will join them on a hunt, walking between 3-5 miles, and imagine what it might be like to live in a different era.

Accommodations: Forest Hill Sundown Lodge

Day 10: Arusha

Our options today include experiencing the Materuni Waterfalls, shopping at covered Maasai market, and visiting families of students who attend the Bethany Pre and Primary School.
